Stacey Garmshausen has been a jewelry designer for almost 20 years. Her work has been seen on some of the most stylish celebrities and has been featured in a number of magazines over the years. After moving to Oahu in 2017, she learned about micro plastics and the global epidemic of marine plastics overtaking our seas. Having a lifetime love of the ocean, Stacey developed ADRIFT by Stacey G, a collection of art and jewelry using repurposed plastic that she has collected off the beaches of Oahu. It is her hope that her pieces will bring awareness and inspire conversations about how our use of single plastics is contributing to the epidemic of microplastics in our seas.

Pair of Microplastic Earrings by Lilikoi Beach Designs
Plastic is not fantastic—especially when microplastic finds its way into our ocean, disrupting pristine habitats and poisoning wildlife. I’ve been picking bits of plastic trash off of East Oahu beaches for a couple years, not knowing what to do with them... until these! Here’s one small person’s small way of helping our oceans by repurposing microplastic trash.
Lilikoi Beach Designs is a small, one-woman-show jewelry brand based in Honolulu. LBD prioritizes environmentally conscious packaging and practices, with its jewelry ranges from gold-filled pieces, to vintage postage stamps, to upcycled ocean microplastic. Each month, 10% of its proceeds are donated to a different charity.

Signed CD, Sway by Tavana
During a time of isolation, collaboration is the theme of Sway. Tavana began the project pre-pandemic, envisioning his fifth album as another largely solo soundtrack. He recorded every verse in his living room, often with his 6-year-old son and 11-year-old stepson just a door away. “I still, to this day, say that if you were to take some of these tracks and listen to them alone, you’re probably gonna hear my boys in the background running around,” he says with a laugh.
Tavana is a multi-instrumentalist from Honolulu, HI who uses electronic drum triggers to lay down a variety of grooves with his feet while simultaneously playing guitar, banjo, lap steel, or ukulele and singing soulful, island-inspired Rock and Blues.
What does Surfrider Foundation Oahu do?
Through our campaigns, programs, events, and education, we create positive change in our local community. We are best known for our large-scale beach cleanups and work to ban single-use plastics through policy. We also work to fight for clean water, protect our beaches from erosion, sea walls, and development, and ensure that our beaches are accessible to all people.
