Kaimana Beach Tower

Honored to be featured in a show at the Honolulu Hale, this is one in a series of Lifeguard Towers that was on display for a month in 2006. The show's theme was "Beacons of Safety" and told the story of the iconic orange towers were being replaced, and the lifeguard heroes who manned them.

I "talked story" with numerous lifeguards to capture the essence of who these men and women were, and spent time sitting in the shade of the towers, watching the visitors explore the surf just as they did. The towers that I painted were: Kaimana Beach, Shades of Waimanalo, Kailua Tower 8, Rocky Point, Hanauma Bay and "Tuesdays", Maile Tower, Haleiwa tower and Makaha tower. This painting is Kaimana Beach, called "Dig me beach".
